Black Roots – Ghetto Feel
A youthman wanders aimlessly through the streets of St Paul’s Bristol and as he walks about bored and hopeless, the camera explores the area in which he lives. It is the ‘ghetto’ in Bristol. You see him working in a Caribbean Food Takeaway but for him this is a ‘dead end’ job offering no prospects and no future. The owner fires him because he is always dreaming of what he wants to be and not concentrating on his work. This leaves him in greater desperation because now he has nothing to do to occupy his time. He is back to doing his walkabouts. One time he hears a band rehearsing in a basement studio and he walks in on them. And they let him sing one of the songs that they are rehearsing. The youthman becomes Carlton, the lead vocal, on this song, and the band is Black Roots. In the end this youth found a way to channel his creativity and do something positive.

LYRICS
All around the globe is the ghetto feel
Ina New York the Bronx jam down Trench Town
Paris ah the whole of the place
Full of ghetto feeling
No work for the youths
Nothing to fall back on
The future look grim
Pain with no gain.
Look into the ghetto CHORUS
Everything a crumble
And fall out of place
When it’s your place
Pleading for peace in the ghetto
Peace and love.
De black man a feel pain
De white man a suffer
Mi she the black man a feel pain
Everything we do
We hold on to the blade
And dem hold the handle
Dem must fall away
Like the wind blow the mist
CHORUS
They she a true life we get
What is coming to you, a phallacy
Their history shows that dey take it
Dem colonial powers were no saint
Murder and butchering were in their full partnership
Just like David Cameron and his chancellor
The cross of the false king
Come out of blood pain and violence
CHORUS
So they make it hard for we
For we call on the university
So we down tool and college green
Make dem see that it’s real
So we want an A and they give we a D
Lead us to the dumber truck
Street cleaner and garbage collector
No youths not you stand firm to change this order.
CHORUS
So they make it hard for we
For we call on the university
So we down tool and college green
Make dem see that it’s real
So we want an A and they give we a D
Lead us to the dumber truck
Street cleaner and garbage collector
No youths not you stand firm to change this order.
